What is CityVarsity?
CityVarsity is a media and creative arts school. Most of its full time courses are taken over two years, with the option to do a third year Advanced Diploma in some of these courses.

CityVarsity offers a wide range of Professional Short Courses aimed at individuals wanting to improve their skills for work in Film, Television, and Multimedia industries.

Why should I study at CityVarsity School of Media & Creative Arts?
A CityVarsity education gives graduates a Creative Edge in an increasingly competitive media and creative arts arena. Its philosophy is to ensure that its students are educated to the highest possible professional industry standard. With the resources available to students on campus and the tuition they will receive from well-respected, leading industry professionals, students will be afforded every opportunity to realize their own unique creative identities.

Is CityVarsity an accredited institution?
Yes, CityVarsity is a fully accredited Higher Education institution.

The eight full time diploma courses and two full time certificate courses on offer are registered with the Dept. of Education for the qualifications shown on certificate no. 01HB04. These courses are further accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) and all are registered with SAQA at NQF levels 5 and 6.

Diplomas vs. degrees?
While CityVarsity certificate and diploma courses achieve a healthy balance between practical and theoretical study, it places great emphasis on putting all theory learnt into actual practice. The creative environment at CityVarsity intentionally resembles workings of the media and creative arts industries that it serves.

In contrast, degree programmes focus on academic theory, with significantly less time spent gaining practical Film, TV and Multimedia production experience.

What are CityVarsity's entrance requirements?
A minimum Grade 12 / Matriculation Certificate, without endorsement. All applicants are required to complete an evaluation and an interview or audition may be necessary as well. It is an advantage to have taken art as a subject when applying for an Animation, Motion Picture Production design, Fashion and Multimedia Design programmes.

What are the job opportunities for CityVarsity graduates?
Graduates of CityVarsity graduate with a qualification that is respected in the industry and they are equipped with the experience, competence and confidence to go with it. They also leave with a full professional portfolio to show prospective employers.

The number of opportunities in the Film, Television, and Multimedia industries in South Africa and beyond are innumerable and there are opportunities for people with passion, drive, and the will to work.

Launched in 2007, CityVarsity's Newtown, Johannesburg campus and offers Animation, Film & TV, Multimedia Production, and Fashion Design diplomas (subject to the registration and accreditation of these courses at this campus). Select professional short course programmes will commence at this campus in September 2006.
