Can a company claim grants back from the SDF (Skills Development Facilitator) for successfully completing a Damelin short course?
There is a belief that employers can only claim their levies back when making use of accredited providers. However, in the Government Gazette (No.20865 of 7 February 2000) it is made clear that the Skills Development Levies Act does not provide for the recovery of levy payment when making use of accredited providers and NQF-aligned programmes ( www.saqa.org.za). Instead, it states that levy payment may be recovered based on the submission of Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs), Workplace Skills Implementation Plans (WSIPs) and the submission of the names of skills development facilitators (SDFs).

Note: WSIP is now referred to as the Annual Training Report (ATR).

Can a learner obtain an exit level qualification if they have only completed one year of a full qualification?
Previously, legislation allowed for multiple exit levels from a qualification. This meant that, if for example, a student registered for a three year Bachelor's degree, they had the option of exiting after the first year of studies and being issued with a Certificate or after the second year of studies and being issued with a Diploma. The student would have to exit the qualification in order to be issued with an exit level qualification which could only be issued to a student who was exiting the programme at a particular level, i.e. the student may only have been issued with one qualification which reflected the level at which they exited the programme.

However, current legislation no longer allows for exit levels within a qualification. Certificates and diplomas are required to be stand-alone qualifications.
