FAQ's - Distance Learning

INTEC, LYCEUM, DAMELIN CORRESPONDENCE COLLEGE

What are the advantages of studying via distance learning?
Distance learning, previously known as correspondence study, is a convenient way to gain a qualification or to achieve an additional skill or expertise. It carries the following advantages:

  • Learners can remain employed while studying. Because home-study lets the learner study in their own time and outside of office hours, they can still remain employed full-time.
  • There is no closing date for enrolment, studies can begin and finish when it suits the learner - within certain limitations.
  • There are no classes to attend so learners can study from own home or at the office during their lunch-hour!
  • Learners decide when to study and draw up their own timetable. They can also study at their own pace - so they can spend longer on some parts of the material or shorter on others.
  • With Educor's distance learning colleges, INTEC, Lyceum and Damelin Correspondence College, course fees cover tuition for the full course and all study material, including textbooks and study aids and postage of all marked assignments and material sent to the learner.
  • Educor's distance learning arm offers easy payment and affordable payment options which can be tailored to fit the individual's budget.
  • Tutors are hired on a part-time basis, many of the tutors are professionals in the subjects they teach, while others have retired from their careers after gaining long experience.
Can I enrol for more than one course at a time?
Yes. There is a 10 percent discount available if you enrol for more than one course.

How are distance learning courses assessed?
Many Educor distance learning courses are internally assessed via an examination or a practical assessment. For these courses, you will have all the relevant information available to make sure you can prepare for them.

As the Further Education and Training (FET) registration is in process, to date, no college has been given formal registration by the Department of Education. Intec has duly applied for registration and is awaiting such.

INTEC College is committed to meeting all legislative requirements set be all the relevant regulatory bodies and is in the process of submitting HE qualifications, NQF 5 / 6 to the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) for accreditation.

Is the course a National Qualification on the NQF? Is it written to Unit Standards and in Outcomes Based Education format?
Where possible, our courses are developed according to National Qualifications at NQF level and written to Unit Standards according to Outcomes Based methodology. Where there are no registered National Qualification or Unit Standards available for a course, INTEC curriculates its in-house courses using experts in the field.
