Educor bursaries create better futures

Educor Foundation has recently awarded bursaries to the total value of R450,000 to educators and Grade 12 learners, through two of Educor’s renowned educational brands,  Damelin and INTEC College.  Grade 12 learners across South Africa were issued bursaries to the total value of R350,000, and teachers and principals were given bursaries to the value of R100,000.

These Educor Foundation Corporate Social Investment initiatives were undertaken in partnership with the South African Principals’ Association, at their annual conference, which was held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Durban from 21 to 24 September 2011.

The names of all the schools represented at the conference were entered into a draw, and the General Manager of each Damelin campus selected a winner from their area. The Principal and Governing Body of these schools were then given the responsibility of selecting a worthy Grade 12 learner to be the recipient of the bursaries.

The INTEC College bursaries were issued to School Principals and teachers across the country by means of a draw.

Educor Foundation’s Corporate Social Investment also includes The Educor Youth Development Fund, which annually provides the opportunity for selected children from rural areas to pursue tertiary education at Educor’s various educational institutions, and thereby greatly enhance their prospects of a successful future. In addition to this, Educor has partnerships with various organisations such as Edcon, the Foschini Group, JD Group, Amy Biehl Foundation, South African Ubuntu Foundation and the Public and Allied Workers Union of South Africa (PAWUSA). Through these partnerships, Educor seeks to provide opportunities for education to an increasing number of South Africans.

“Every education provider should have a commitment to Corporate Social Investment,” states Nolan Charles, Group Chief Commercial Officer for Educor. “This ensures that education does not stay in the hands of the elite, but is accessible to those who need it the most.”
